The automotive industry has witnessed impressive sales figures by the end of 2021. However, price increases following the recent increase in taxes and restrictions on vehicle financing have slowed its growth.
In February 2022, the automotive industry witnessed only a small increase in car sales. Companies such as Toyota Indus Motor Company (IMC) and Honda Atlas Cars Limited (HACL) reported significantly lower sales than last month.
In contrast, Hyundai Nishat and Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) saw sales increase, which affected overall figures, according to data shared by the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturers Association (PAMA).
Overall, the following cars were selected as the best-selling cars in February 2022:
Suzuki Alto #1
Suzuki Alto, the first in the last few months, has become a replacement for the legendary Mehra. PSMC became the best-selling car in Pakistan for the second consecutive month since the beginning of 2022, selling 7,175 Alto units.
February 2022 revealed some interesting car sales figures for tax and price increases. In the most interesting development, Toyota Yaris, once the best-selling sedan on the market, did not even fall into the top five.
Hyundai Tucson also saw a huge increase in sales, but did not exceed the limit of 1000 units. Overall, despite the price increase, car demand remains strong.
Honda City #2
The new Honda City has openly dethroned the Toyota Yaris as Pakistan’s best-selling subcompact sedan. According to our sources, HACL sold 2146 units of the City in February 2022, making it the second best-selling sedan in the country.
People have seen the 6th Generation City as a major improvement over its predecessor, the Fifth Generation City. However, its popularity will convince HACL to keep it on sale in Pakistan for another ten years. Let’s hope not.
Suzuki Cultus #3
Cultus has recently seen turbulent sales in Pakistan. The car has sold less than Corolla and City in the last two months. In February 2022, PSMC sold 1,694 Cultus, making it the fourth best-selling car of the month.
Suzuki Wagon R #4
Wagon R again became a bestseller in Pakistan. PSMC sold a remarkable 1,646 Wagon Rs. These figures make the Wagon R the best-selling car in Pakistan for the second year in a row, making it the best performer in a row.
Toyota Corolla #5
Despite its relatively high price, the Toyota Corolla beat Honda City by a narrow margin to regain the title of “best-selling sedan” in Pakistan. Toyota IMC sold the 2203 Corolla in February 2022, becoming the second best-selling car of the month for the second year in a row.
