The 2009 ICC World Twenty20 Final was played between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at the Lord’s in London on 21 June 2009. This was the 2nd ICC World Twenty20. Pakistan won the match by eight wickets, its first World Twenty20 victory, after being the runners-up at the very previous tournament at 2007 Pakistan became the 2nd team to win this title after India. Australia’s old enemy stands between Pakistan and a world final
unbeaten in a format from 2015 in the UAE, Pakistan met with another bogey team at ICC events.
In the spotlight
Shaheen Shah Afridi against the Australian high order may be the game that decides the fate of this semi-final. It is strange to come up with this point of criticism, but with Pakistan closing gaps and crossing so effectively, all the straw must be seized. Since Afridi cemented his status as king of the first backs with leading incantations through the ages against India, he has only managed one wicket in his opening incantations over the other four matches, with none in his first match. It feels especially moral to express this, especially since it did not prevent Shaheen from enjoying a very successful competition; apart from a day off against Namibia, he has not submitted more than one run-ball since the opening match.
Australia have a balance problem with their team and sometimes prefer the extra nail bowls and another spinner. However, they seem to have settled on their combination and there should be no change in them.
